Since leaving the Central School of Speech and Drama, Jane has worked as a writer, playwright, theatre and opera director. She is well known for her biographical dramas of modern and historical characters – ranging from Byron to Buster Keaton, from Beethoven to Roosevelt and Churchill.
In 1985 Jane started her own company, the English Chamber Theatre and has been its Artistic Director since then. Dame Judi Dench is the President. Apart from writing and directing the ECT shows, Jane has also worked at a freelance director for theatre, opera and music theatre.
Her productions have taken her all over the world. She organised the opening workshop at the re-built Shakespeare Globe Theatre. Many other workshops followed in Bermuda, Florida and North Carolina.
